Message from the President
April 1,
2011
The Lorenzo Patiño Council held its board
member election at the March meeting and I am honored to have been
elected to serve as President for one more year. We filled all
positions and added one more category, that of Chaplain. Please
check our "Contact" webpage for the full list of new Council Board
members for 2011.
Time to renew your LULAC membership and help our Council grow. Numbers are more important than ever before, as we prepare to deal with such important issues as Immigration Reform. To help us understand this and various other issues confronting us, our Council has a newly constituted Legislative Analysis Sub-committee.
As we begin our Council activity for the upcoming year, we should reflect a bit on our 2010 Council accomplishments. These include:
Testifing before the Sacramento City Council in support of the Arizona
boycott
Participating in a city wide blood drive
for Leukemia patients.
Submitting a Resolution to National LULAC
to make changes and to look into the mistreatment and
discrimation of our disabled veterans occurring nationwide.
Participating in the annual
Cesar Chavez
March
Changing the look and feel of our website.

We did, however, have several obstacles to overcome last year.
We encountered health issues by some of
our board members, the hard economic times, and the very
harsh and charged political environment. My thanks to our
Council Vice President, Francisco Garcia, and the rest of the
board and membership for stepping up and filling the void.
Unfortunately, we will not be offering scholarships this upcoming year. However, we are planning an ambitious fundraising schedule and hopefully we will be in a position to offer twice as many scholarships next year. The date and details will be available on our website for your veiwing as soon as they become known. We ask friends and community for your involvement and assistance to make these fundraisers a success.
Looking forward to working with many of you in the upcoming year!
